Reverse description The reverse design commemorates the 350th anniversary of the Royal Observatory, Greenwich, and depicts a richly detailed composition centred on a terrestrial globe showing the Prime Meridian line. The Shepherd Gate Clock, the first public clock to display Greenwich Mean Time, is prominently featured, while the constellation Ursa Minor and the star Polaris are rendered in the surrounding field to evoke celestial navigation. The designer's initials HDG appear within the design. The gold-plated outer ring bears the inscription THE ROYAL OBSERVATORY · GREENWICH · with the founding year 1675 and the commemorative year 2025 flanking the central motif.
