| Obverse description | Central field displays the royal cypher 'GR' (Georgius Rex) surmounted by a crown, rendered in a crude, hammered style typical of early Bombay Presidency coinage. The abbreviated legend 'G R BOMB' encircles or accompanies the crowned cypher, referencing King George I and the Bombay mint authority. The design is characteristic of the so-called 'Copperoon' series, struck with irregular dies on a roughly prepared copper flan. The overall execution reflects the rudimentary striking technology employed at the Bombay Mint in the early eighteenth century. |
