Obverse description The obverse displays the heraldic shield of the East India Company supported by two rampant lions facing inward, each standing on a decorative base. Above the shield rises a central trophy of two crossed flags surmounted by a lion passant. The circular legend reads EAST INDIA COMPANY around the upper periphery, with the Latin motto AUSPICIO REGIS ET SENATUS ANGLIAE inscribed on a ribbon or banner across the lower portion of the design. The date 1804 appears in the exergue or lower field, and the whole device is enclosed within a beaded border.
