Obverse description The civic arms of Augsburg — the Zirbelnuss (pine cone), the ancient symbol of the city — displayed prominently at centre on a pedestal, enclosed within an elaborate Baroque cartouche of scrolling acanthus foliage. The pine cone is rendered in bold relief with a crosshatched surface, surmounted by a decorative floral finial. The cartouche is framed by symmetrical foliate scrollwork extending to both sides and the base, filling the field. A fine beaded border surrounds the entire design at the rim.
