Obverse description Half-length figure of Saint Paul, the patron of Münster Cathedral, shown facing left with nimbus, holding a sword — his traditional attribute — in the field. The figure is rendered in a simple, archaic style characteristic of German ecclesiastical coinage of the period. A horizontal line divides the lower portion of the field, with the name S·PAVLVS inscribed in the lower segment. The circular legend reading MON:CATHED:ECCLES:MONASTE surrounds the design.
