| Obverse description | The obverse is framed by an outer pearl-and-dash border enclosing a solid raised inner circle. Within the inner circle, the municipal coat of arms of Frankenthal is prominently centered in the field. A circular legend in Fraktur blackletter script runs between the two border rings, reading 'Stadt Frankenthal' with ornamental cross pattée stops flanking the secondary inscription 'Kriegsgeld'. |

| Additional information |
Frankenthal's 1918 emergency coinage was issued under the same wartime metal shortages that stripped German municipal authorities of copper and forced hundreds of cities to produce their own stop-gap Kriegsgeld. By 1918 the imperial government had requisitioned base metals so aggressively that local administrations were left to negotiate their own zinc and iron supplies independently.
The Funck reference number places this within a well-documented but sprawling catalog of Palatinate notgeld — Frankenthal issued multiple denominations across a narrow window before the armistice effectively collapsed the rationale for continued local issue.
