The 2 Peso denomination was reintroduced into the Argentine series following the catastrophic 2001–2002 peso crisis, when the convertibility peg to the US dollar collapsed and the government froze bank deposits in the episode Argentines call the "corralito." New low-denomination notes were needed quickly as the reconstituted peso found its footing. Casa de Moneda, the state printing works in Buenos Aires, handled the entire series domestically — an arrangement that has been standard for Argentina since the mid-twentieth century.
Watermark-only security on a circulating note this late is notably sparse for the period, reflecting cost constraints rather than oversight.
