Pambujan Sur is a municipality in Northern Samar, and its locally issued emergency currency from 1943 places this note squarely within the Philippine guerrilla money phenomenon of the Japanese occupation. Dozens of municipalities, provinces, and resistance units printed their own scrip when Japanese Military Peso notes were imposed — some issues had genuine local government backing, others were little more than improvised instruments to keep local economies functioning outside Japanese control.
Municipal-level issues from Northern Samar are among the harder Philippine emergency notes to document. Many were printed in tiny quantities on whatever paper was available, and survival rates are low. The absence of a Pick number reflects how incompletely this category has been catalogued.
