A product of the Republican zone's wartime vales system, this token note was issued by the Mutual Workers' Pastry Cooperative in Vic — one of hundreds of Catalan worker collectives and municipalities that began printing their own emergency scrip after the July 1936 military uprising disrupted coin supply and conventional banking throughout the region. The Generalitat de Catalunya eventually attempted to regulate the flood of local issues, but many circulated freely regardless, redeemable only within their issuing cooperative or community.

Printing by Viladot in Barcelona placed production in competent commercial hands, though the note's reach would never have extended far beyond Vic's local economy.
