Tivissa is a small municipality in the Ribera d'Ebre comarca of Tarragona, and like hundreds of Catalan and Spanish towns it issued its own emergency paper money during the Civil War years of 1936–1939 when the Republic's coinage effectively vanished from circulation through hoarding and metal requisitions. These hyper-local emissions — collectively catalogued under the Guerra Civil series — were produced without central authorization and varied wildly in print quality, paper stock, and denominations from one town to the next.

Turró's cataloguing of these municipal issues remains the standard reference, though survivorship among the smaller village emissions is genuinely unpredictable.
