Obverse description Bare-headed bust of King Alfonso XII facing left, occupying the central field of the original 1882 coin. A circular countermark applied around the effigy bears the legend commemorating the 5th centenary of Santa Cruz de La Palma, with the date 1993. The inner field retains the original coin design within the countermark border.
