| Obverse description | Printed in red on plain paper stock, the note is framed by a simple geometric border composed of repeating decorative elements at the corners and along each side. The central text is arranged in tiered letterpress inscriptions, with the issuing authority and place name occupying the upper portion, the bearer clause in the middle, and the denomination in large bold type at the foot. A serial number field appears in the upper left, and an authentication clause referencing the dry seal runs along the lower margin. |

Ribadesella is a small coastal municipality in Asturias, and like dozens of similarly sized Spanish towns, its municipal council was forced to issue emergency paper during the Civil War after the Republic's central coinage supply collapsed in 1936–37. Small change vanished almost immediately — hoarded, melted, or simply unavailable — and local bodies stepped in with whatever printing resources they had. The result was a proliferation of hyper-local emergency notes, many produced on whatever paper stock was at hand, with authority conveyed by little more than a dry impressed seal.
At 56 × 53 mm, this is nearly square — a shape driven by material constraints, not design intent.
