Flanking the shield are the two Pillars of Hercules, each bearing a ribbon inscribed PLUS ULTRA (Beyond Further), symbolising Spain's imperial heritage. The denomination 2 PESETAS is boldly inscribed in the lower field, while the upper legend states the metrical standard: 100 PIEZAS EN KILOGRAMO (100 pieces per kilogram).
