Noguerones de Alcaudete is a small rural settlement in the province of Jaén, Andalusia. This note was issued by its municipal council during the Spanish Civil War, when the collapse of small-denomination coinage forced thousands of local bodies — village councils, trade unions, casino clubs — to print their own emergency paper. The Republican zone was particularly affected; the hoarding of metal coins and the disruption of Banco de España supply chains left ordinary commerce at a standstill.
The thick card stock and rubber stamp authentication are characteristic of the most improvised end of this phenomenon — notes produced with whatever materials the local administration had on hand, often in tiny print runs that were redeemed within months and largely destroyed.
