Mecina Bombarón is a small municipality in the Alpujarras district of Granada, and like dozens of similarly tiny Spanish communities, it resorted to locally issued emergency paper during the Republican side's acute coin shortage of 1936–1937. These municipal emergency emissions — known collectively as "billetes de necesidad" — were produced under no centralized standard, which is why the Gari Montaner catalog reference remains incomplete: documentation on many Alpujarras issues is fragmentary at best, and some are known from single surviving specimens.
The official stamp constitutes the primary authentication device, applied locally after printing. Forgeries were essentially pointless given the hyper-local acceptance radius of these notes — they rarely circulated beyond the issuing municipality itself.
