La Selva del Camp is a small municipality in the Camp de Tarragona comarca, and like hundreds of Catalan towns during the Civil War, it issued its own emergency fractional currency when the Republic's central supply of small-denomination coinage collapsed after 1936. These local issues — collectively catalogued under the Turró system — were authorized under the Generalitat de Catalunya's decrees permitting municipal money, a practical acknowledgment that the war economy had simply consumed the coin supply.
The official stamp is the sole security measure, which tells you everything about the production circumstances: these were printed locally, quickly, and without access to specialist equipment.
