La Portellada is a small municipality in Teruel, Aragon — one of hundreds of villages that issued their own emergency scrip during the Spanish Civil War after the Republican government's decree of November 1936 effectively authorized local collectives to produce substitute currency when coinage disappeared from circulation. The Colectividad issuing this note was almost certainly the anarchist-organized agricultural collective that ran the village economy during the war years, a pattern common across rural Aragon under CNT influence.
The handstamp is the only security measure, applied to validate individual notes — typical of issues where printing was improvised and forgery was considered a lesser risk than simply running out of change.
