Guardiola de Berga is a small municipality in the Berguedà comarca of Catalonia, and like hundreds of similarly sized towns, it issued its own emergency paper money during the Civil War after the Republic's central coin supply collapsed in 1936–37. The Consell Municipal — by then operating under anarchist or left-republican administration depending on the month — commissioned these notes locally from Imprenta Barral in nearby La Pobla de Lillet, a press with no particular specialization in security printing.

The sole security measure was an official rubber stamp applied after printing. Turró catalogues this series thoroughly; #1203 places the 2 Pessetes among the more obscure municipal emissions, with survival rates low simply because small-town wartime scrip was discarded once the Nationalist advance rendered it worthless in 1939.
