Ellar is a small municipality in the comarca of Pallars Jussà, Tarragona province. During the Spanish Civil War, hundreds of Catalan and Aragonese towns issued their own emergency paper scrip when the coin supply collapsed almost entirely after 1936 — the Comité Agrícola de Ellar being one of the smaller agricultural committees to do so. These hyper-local issues were typically redeemable only within the village itself and had no standing outside it.
The Gari reference remains unnumbered, which usually signals either extreme rarity or incomplete documentation at the time the catalog was compiled. Survivors from agricultural committee issues of this scale are genuinely uncommon.
