Cuevas del Almanzora is a small mining town in Almería province, and like hundreds of Spanish municipalities during the Civil War, its local council issued emergency paper money in 1937 after Republican-zone coinage disappeared almost entirely from circulation — hoarded, melted, or simply absent. These municipal issues, known collectively as "billetes de necesidad," were produced under wildly varying conditions, often without professional printing equipment.
The absence of a Gari Montalvo catalog number suggests this piece remains unregistered or inadequately documented in the standard reference — a situation not unusual for minor Almería emissions, where survival rates are low and scholarly attention has been sparse.
