Baells is a tiny municipality in the Berguedà comarca of Catalonia, and like hundreds of similarly small Spanish localities, it issued its own emergency paper money during the Civil War after the Republic's central banking system fragmented and small-denomination coinage vanished almost entirely from circulation. These local issues — collectively known as "paper moneda" or simply "guerra civil locals" — were produced under municipal authority with whatever printing resources were at hand, which for a village the size of Baells meant something closer to a rubber stamp than a security press.
The Gari Mon catalogue reference places this firmly within the documented series, but survival rates for Baells issues are low simply because the issuing population was so small.
