Additional information

Gibraltar's small-denomination coinage from this period was issued under the Gibraltar Government rather than the Crown Agents, reflecting the territory's increasingly assertive control over its own fiscal administration during the late 1990s. Europa Point Lighthouse, built in 1841 and still operational, marks the southernmost tip of the Rock — one of the few British territorial lighthouses that on a clear day can be seen from Morocco across the Strait.
