| Obverse description | Within a raised inner circle, the crowned royal cypher C·R (Carolus Rex) is depicted centrally, the two letters flanking a small lozenge-shaped ornament. Above the cypher, a large ornate crown with fleurs-de-lis and cross pattée finials dominates the upper field. The surrounding legend reads CAR · D · G · SCOT · ANG · FRA · ET · HIB · R, separated by pellet stops, running clockwise around the outer border. The coin exhibits an irregular, slightly lobate flan edge characteristic of early milled copper pattern issues of this period. |
