Obverse description Central field dominated by a large quartered heraldic shield displaying the combined arms of Austria, Burgundy, and Brabant, with an escutcheon at the fess point bearing a subsidiary coat of arms. The shield is rendered in bold relief typical of late medieval hammered coinage. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, beyond which runs the circumferential Latin legend in Gothic lettering, separated by pellet stops. The irregular flan is characteristic of hand-struck Low Countries silver coinage of the period.
