Additional information

Honoré II secured formal recognition of Monegasque sovereignty from Louis XIII in 1641 — just one year after this coin was struck — making this issue part of the transitional moment when Monaco shifted from Spanish protection to French. The patacchio was a small-denomination copper struck for local circulation, and Monaco's output was tiny enough that survival in any condition is genuinely uncommon.
