Issued as part of Israel's long-running sports commemorative program, this piece was released ahead of the 2004 Athens Olympics, where windsurfing had been a contested event since Barcelona 1992. Israel's Gal Fridman would go on to win gold in the RS:X class at Athens — the country's first Olympic gold medal in any sport — though the coin's production predates that result by months.
