| Reverse description | The reverse presents a detailed engraving adapted from a medieval Hebrew illuminated manuscript — the 'Miscellany' produced in France circa 1280 — depicting the biblical scene of Solomon's Judgement. King Solomon is shown enthroned at center, crowned and robed in flowing garments, holding a sceptre, flanked by two armed soldiers each raising a sword. Before the throne kneel two women disputing over an infant, rendered in a stylised Gothic manuscript idiom. The entire composition fills the field to the rim with no peripheral legend, allowing the intricate line-art illustration to dominate the coin's surface in high relief against a mirror-polished proof background. |
