Additional information

Agnon remains the only Hebrew-language writer to have received the Nobel Prize in Literature, awarded in 1966. His acceptance speech in Stockholm was delivered partly in Hebrew — a deliberate act for a language that had only decades earlier been revived as a spoken tongue. This commemorative was issued on the 120th anniversary of his birth in Buczacz, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, now Buchach in western Ukraine.
