Issued as part of Israel's ongoing wildlife series, this coin commemorates the Arabian leopard (Panthera pardus nimr), a subspecies that once ranged across the Negev and Judean Desert but had effectively disappeared from Israeli territory by the early 1990s. The timing was not incidental — conservation efforts were actively underway at the Hai-Bar Yotvata reserve in the Arava during this period, where captive breeding programs attempted to preserve animals that the wild population could no longer sustain.
