Obverse description The obverse features the numeral '2' prominently at the top within a stylized shield-shaped cartouche, below which the denomination is inscribed in Hebrew (שקלים חדשים) and in Latin script (NEW SHEQALIM). The State emblem of Israel — a menorah flanked by olive branches — appears to the right of center in the lower field. The issuer's name is rendered in three scripts: Hebrew (ישראל), Latin (ISRAEL), and Arabic (اسرائيل). At the bottom, the Gregorian year 1987 and the Hebrew year התשמ״ח are inscribed, with the Hebrew letter Mem (מ) serving as the mint mark to the right.
