The Biblical Wildlife Series was authorized by the Bank of Israel as a long-running commemorative program drawing on fauna and flora referenced in scripture — the wild goat (*Capra aegagrus*) appears in Psalms and Job, and the shittah tree, almost certainly the Negev acacia, is the wood explicitly prescribed in Exodus for construction of the Ark of the Covenant and the Tabernacle's furnishings. That the acacia was chosen for the holiest objects in the Mosaic account owes largely to its exceptional hardness and resistance to desert decay.
KM#349 was struck at the Israel Government Coins and Medals Corporation facility in Jerusalem.
