Jersey decimalized on 15 February 1971 — Decimal Day — alongside the United Kingdom, replacing the pound of 240 pence with one of 100. The island had previously maintained its own pre-decimal coinage independent of British issues, so this series marked a significant structural alignment with the mainland monetary system. Bronze was already being phased out across British-influenced mints by the late 1970s in favor of cheaper plated steel, and Jersey followed suit shortly after this series closed.
