Reverse description Cast reverse bearing two Chinese characters in regular script flanking the central square hole. The mint mark 營 (Yŏng), denoting the Special Army Unit (御營廳, Oyongchong), appears at the top position. Below the hole appears the Thousand Character Classic character 玄 (Hyon, meaning 'dark'), serving as a series or batch designator. The field is plain, and the rim is simple and unadorned, typical of Joseon-period cast cash coinage. Certain varieties are distinguished by the presence of a yin star (dot) on the surface or reverse at varying clock positions.
