| Obverse description | Cast bronze cash coin with a central square hole. The obverse bears four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform fashion around the central aperture: 常 (Sang) at top, 平 (Pyeong) at bottom, 通 (Tong) at right, and 寶 (Bo) at left, together reading 常平通寶 (Sangpyeong Tongbo), the standard legend of the Joseon dynasty Sangpyeong currency system, signifying 'Ever-Normal Circulating Treasure.' The characters are rendered in regular script (kaishu) and are read top-right-bottom-left in the traditional manner. The field is plain, and the coin's rim is slightly raised. |

| Reverse description | The reverse bears three Chinese characters arranged around the central square hole. The mint bureau mark 統 (Tong), denoting the Seoul Military Office Mint (Hullyeondogam), appears at the top. The character 宿 (Su/Suk), indicating a lunar mansion designation used as a batch control mark, is positioned at the bottom. The trigram symbol ☳ (Chen/Chin), representing thunder in the Eight Trigrams (Ba Gua) system and used as a furnace or batch identifier, appears at the right. A variant of this type is also known with a concave star or concave dot at the reverse right in place of or alongside the trigram. |
