Obverse description Cast bronze cash coin featuring a central square hole framed by a raised square rim. Four Chinese characters are arranged in the traditional cross pattern around the central perforation: 常 (above), 通 (right), 寶 (left), and 平 (below), reading 常平通寶 — the standard inscription denoting the Sangpyeong Tongbo currency of the Joseon Dynasty. The legends are rendered in regular script (楷書) and stand in bold relief against a flat field, with a plain outer rim encircling the design.
