| Obverse description | Cast bronze cash-type coin with a central square perforation flanked by four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform fashion around the hole. Reading clockwise from the top, the four-character legend 常平通寶 (Sangpyeong Tongbo) occupies the cardinal positions of the field: 常 (constant) at top, 通 (circulating) at right, 寶 (treasure) at bottom, and 平 (peaceful) at left. The characters are rendered in a bold, slightly archaic script style typical of Joseon-period cast coinage. The flat, unadorned rim frames the field without any raised border decoration. |
