| Reverse description | Cast reverse displaying mint and denomination marks in the four fields surrounding the central square hole, following standard Joseon cash coin convention. The character 平 (Pyong) appears at top, serving as the mint identifier for the P'yongan Provincial Office (平安監營). The character 陽 (Yang) appears at left, denoting the specific bureau of issue within the mint. The character 二 (I, meaning 'two') appears at right, indicating the denomination of 2 mun. The bottom field is either plain or bears an additional serial or batch mark. The reverse is otherwise unadorned, with no border inscription. |

The Yang-I ("two sun") furnace at Pyongyang was one of several provincial casting operations established under the Sangpyeong Tongbo currency system, itself introduced in 1678 after earlier monetization attempts had repeatedly failed to gain traction among a population accustomed to cloth and rice as exchange media. Provincial minting was deliberately decentralized — a response to the logistical impossibility of supplying copper coinage from a single central authority across the peninsula's difficult terrain.
The 2 Mun denomination was the workhorse of daily Joseon commerce. Pyongyang issues from this furnace are distinguished in the CK reference by their casting characteristics, which reflect local ore sourcing rather than standardized central supply.
