Obverse description Cast round coin with a square central hole. The four-character legend 常平通寶 (Sangpyeong Tongbo) is arranged in cruciform fashion around the central square perforation: 常 (Sang) at top, 平 (Pyeong) at bottom, 通 (Tong) at left, and 寶 (Bo) at right, reading top-bottom and right-left in traditional fashion. The inscription references the Sangpyeongcheong, the Ever-Normal Office of the Joseon Dynasty responsible for monetary policy. Characters are rendered in regular script (kaishu) with clean, well-defined strokes typical of mid-eighteenth-century Joseon cast coinage. The flat field is unadorned beyond the central perforation and surrounding legend.
