| Obverse description | Cast round coin with a central square hole, bearing four Chinese characters arranged in a cruciform pattern around the perforation in the field. The characters read 常平通寶 (Sangpyeong Tongbo), with 常 (Sang) at top, 平 (Pyeong) at bottom, 通 (Tong) at right, and 寶 (Bo) at left, referencing the Joseon Dynasty's Sangpyeongcheong (Office of Price Stabilization) monetary authority. The inscription is rendered in regular script (kaishu) in a clean, formal style typical of mid-18th century Joseon cast coinage. The flat field surrounding the central hole is plain, with raised rim borders on both inner and outer edges framing the legends. |
