Obverse description Central square hole flanked by four Chinese characters arranged in cruciform fashion within a round coin body. Reading top to bottom: 常平 (Sangpyeong), denoting the Joseon-era Sangpyeong Ever-Normal Treasury; reading right to left: 通寶 (Tongbo), the standard term for circulating currency. The characters are rendered in regular script (kaishu) style, each occupying one of the four cardinal positions relative to the central perforation, set within a plain inner border and outer rim.

Obverse lettering 常平通寶
Reverse description Central square hole surrounded by four fields bearing mint and series marks. The mint mark 禁 (Keum), denoting the Geumwiyeong (Court Guard Military Unit), appears at the top. A crescent symbol is positioned at the right. The bottom field carries the series character 來 (Nae), the 36th character from the Thousand Character Classic, used to differentiate individual cash coins within a series. The left field is plain. All markings are cast in regular script style within a plain border.
