| Obverse description | Bare-headed effigy of King William IV facing right, rendered in high relief with finely detailed curling hair. The truncation of the neck is cleanly cut, showing the king in a plain, unadorned classical style characteristic of William Wyon's engraving. The circumferential legend reads WILLIAM IIII · KING · arranged around the portrait, separated by a wavy inner border and an outer dentilated rim. The Roman numeral IIII, rather than the conventional IV, is a distinctive feature of this coinage. The overall portrait style reflects Wyon's assured neoclassical approach, consistent with his work for the Royal Mint during this period. |
