Obverse description The obverse field is entirely occupied by four large Chinese characters arranged in a two-by-two grid: 迪化 (Dihua) across the top and 光緒 (Guangxu) in the centre, with 銀圓 (Silver Coin) to the right and 貳錢 (2 Qian) to the lower left. The bold, deeply incuse relief characters are rendered in a robust brushwork style characteristic of late Qing provincial coinage. A toothed border of fine denticles runs along the entire rim. The plain field between the characters bears no additional ornament. The layout reads as a straightforward proclamation of denomination, issuing authority, and metal.
