Obverse description The field is dominated by the quartered arms of Burgundy-Brabant, rendered in a bold, flat heraldic style typical of mid-15th-century Low Countries billon coinage. The shield is centrally positioned and occupies the majority of the flan. A beaded inner circle frames the design, with a circular Latin legend running along the outer rim. The inscription abbreviates the name and titles of Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy and Brabant. The die work is characteristic of hammered coinage, showing slight irregularity at the edges.
