Obverse description Two abbreviated ruler names presented in the field in two horizontal lines divided by a plain horizontal bar: the upper line reading IOH (for Johanna) and the lower line reading PHS (for Philippus), rendered in Gothic uncial lettering. A circular legend surrounds the central field, separated by a beaded inner border. The overall design is characteristic of late 14th-century Brabantine billon coinage, with the joint names of Duchess Joanna and her consort Philip referencing their co-rulership. The flan is irregularly shaped, as typical of hammered medieval issues.
