Obverse description Crowned quartered arms of Burgundy displayed in the field within a beaded inner circle. The composite shield bears the heraldic quarterings associated with the Valois-Burgundian dynasty. The surrounding Latin legend, rendered in uncial characters, reads KAROLVS DEI GRA DVX BG Z BRA, identifying Charles as Duke of Burgundy and Brabant by the grace of God. The overall design reflects the heraldic numismatic style typical of the Low Countries in the late fifteenth century.
