Obverse description Printed in black on a blue underprint using intaglio and lithographic techniques. At left, a vignette of a seated cherub flanked by the Imperial coat of arms; at right, an oval medallion bearing the bust portrait of Emperor Dom Pedro II. Ornate typeset legends surround both vignettes, with the denomination numeral '2' repeated at multiple points across the design.

The central motif, enclosed within a circular border, consists of the Armillary Sphere surrounded by a ring of 20 stars representing the 20 Provinces of the Empire, with the inscription 'IMPERIO DO BRASIL' encircling the entire device.
