Obverse description Central field bears the Arabic calligraphic name of Sultan Abd al-Aziz in flowing Maghrebi script, with the Hijri date 1323 inscribed in Western-Arabic numerals immediately below. The design is enclosed within a plain inner circle, itself surrounded by an ornamental geometric border of interlocking chain-link and pellet motifs that runs along the full circumference of the coin.
