Additional information

Queen Kristina inherited the Swedish throne at age six following her father Gustav II Adolf's death at Lützen in 1632, with a regency council governing in her name until she came of age. The Type II designation reflects a revised portrait treatment introduced partway through her early personal reign — Swedish portrait coinage of this period cycled through dies with some frequency as engravers competed for court favor.

Kristina would abdicate in 1654, convert to Catholicism, and leave Sweden permanently — a sequence of events that made her later coinage politically awkward to display during the reign of Karl X Gustav.
