Ludwigslust is a small ducal residence town in Mecklenburg, best known architecturally rather than financially. Its 1922 notgeld issue belongs to the vast wave of municipal emergency money produced during the hyperinflationary spiral that followed Germany's post-war reparations burden — by mid-1922, wholesale prices were already thirty times their 1913 level, and small denominations in coin had effectively vanished from everyday trade.

The DeNG reference places this within a six-variant set, suggesting the city issued the 2 Mark across multiple design or serial configurations rather than a single uniform print run.
