Comments

Genthin is a small town in the Jerichower Land district of Saxony-Anhalt, and its decision to issue notgeld in 1921 places this note in the tail end of the kleingeldersatz wave — the phase when municipalities scrambled to cover small-denomination shortages that the Reichsbank refused to address. By 1921, many larger cities had already wound down their notgeld programs, but smaller towns like Genthin kept issuing into the inflation's early acceleration.

Alfred Hanf in Erfurt was a minor regional printer who handled notgeld contracts for several Thuringian and central German municipalities during this period. Not a prestige commission by any measure.
